Gold Coast Day Two

Gold Coast Day Two

After a good sleep, all three of us woke up at about 8:30 am, refreshed and ready to face the day ahead of us. The first order of business was to have our buffet breakfast. Although not as varied as I hoped, the girls were happy with what it offered. Especially Isabelle when Lilian came back to the table with Soft Serve Ice-Cream. My disappointment was the lack of danish pastries, which, I feel, is a requirement of any good buffet breakfast.

On offer was a selection of:

  • cut fruit
  • bread / toast
  • Muesli and granola
  • 2 types of danish
  • mini croissants
  • bacon
  • sausages
  • eggs
    • fried
    • scrambles
    • poached
  • hash browns
  • Ice Cream

It was very strange watching some people's behaviour around the food. After eating, they were then getting a couple of napkins and take bacon, eggs, and hash browns with them as roadies. It suggested that some guests of the resort had stretched themselves so far to get here, they may not have the ability to support themselves through the stay. It was not limited to one demographic of the public. Furthermore, it made me feel thankful that I have the employment that allows me to not have to worry about how I am going to afford to take the kids on experiences like this.

After breakfast, we went back to the room so that the girls could take their medication, and put on sunscreen before we headed off to Movie World.

Isabelle had talked herself into doing the joker, as she had found out that it was the tallest roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere. I didn't tell her as it is not my job to burst her bubble, but there was no way that once she saw it, that she was going to want to go onto it.

The kids started off on the little kids' rides, as they wanted to play it safe, unfortunately the safe riders were for the little kids, and Lilian was too tall for most of them. Lilian tried out one of the rollercoasters, but she had unfortunately psyched herself out of it being fun because of the anxiety. Isabelle went back for another ride and loved it and decided that she was going to give the Flash ride a go.

The Flash ride is what they call a ride within a ride, it is basically a half pipe track and then on that there is a skateboard that runs over the track, mounted on the skateboard are two turnstiles that rotate during the ride. Below is the promotional video from the website.

After the Flash, Isabelle said that she had reached their excitement level, and they decided to head back to the resort. I would not recommend that people without mid-aged teenagers go to Movie World, especially in its current format, with the moderate rides shut down. But those with older teens will be well catered for.

Both girls were thinking of going to Sea World in the afternoon, as they saw that it had a splash zone, but when Lilian looked it up, it was just a couple of water jets, so the decision from them was to stay at the resort, and just use the pool and water park there.

I spent some time watching them and taking photos, before I hit my limit of humaning, mixed in with a smashing sore knee, so I left the girls with it and headed back to the room to nap it out, as the last couple of days and having a smashing sore knee had taken it out of me.

The girls came back from the pool after it got dark, and the group decision was that we were just going to have room service. The girls both showed their autistic side and decided to have the same fish and chips that they had last night. I was not majorly hungry as I was still full from breakfast, so I just had a bowl of chips

Isabelle then decided that she had not had enough of the pool and got changed back into her swimmers and then spent the remaining time in the pool. Needless to say that she crashed out rapidly once it was lights out.

Lilian is having trouble settling for the second night, I feel sorry for her because she has always been like this even at a young age. It does slowly grind her down, and it also makes her a little crabby at times.

My sugars for the last couple of days have been very unstable, I am not sure what is causing it, it could just be the heat, or I am not carb counting correctly, but I just cannot seem to get it to correct without me manually overriding the pump and correcting with multiple units. There are many days that I wish that I didn't have diabetes, but I do, I am stuck with it, and it is stuck with me.

Both of the girls have been doing fantastic at being stuck in the same room in close quarters with each other, and it brings me so much joy that they appreciate the holiday and do understand that it is not something that every kid can do.

Tomorrow they have decided to go to Wet 'n' Wild, as this is the park that they have both been looking forward to the most. I have hired a cabana for the day, so that during the heat of the day they can both have a bit of a time-out and Isabelle can chill somewhere where she is in the shade so that she does not get burnt to a crisp.

If all goes to plan, we have decided to leave here on Saturday afternoon, and are hoping to stop somewhere around Coffs Harbour for the night, as the girls both want to attend the Butterfly House. This has been one of their favourite places on the coast since we found it before Lilian had even started school.
